There's A Meeting for That

Beyond Sex at the Pure Romance World Conference

Pure Romance World Conference

Maybe the most interesting thing about the Pure Romance World Conference is that despite the high blush potential of its industry — Cincinnati-based Pure Romance sells sex toys and other adult-intimacy products — the conference itself is a fairly typical motivational and training program. Attendees are the company’s sales consultants, who organize in-home sex-toy parties, and there’s an emphasis on professionalism, business development, and women’s health.

“Our mission in general is to empower, educate, and entertain, which carries over into everything we do,” said Lindsey Schildmeyer, project manager for Pure Romance. “The purpose of this conference was to provide education to and recognition for our consultants.”

LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX

“We are not scared to share our mission,” Schildmeyer said. “We are proud of what we do and what we provide women, either as a consultant or customer.”

SHOW AND TELL

As you might imagine for a company whose sales model is predicated on in-home product demonstrations, the conference includes a lot of workshops. “We always have a product launch during World Conference,” Schildmeyer said, “so we usually provide training classes around the new products. Patty Brisben, our founder and chairwoman, conducted a Product Bootcamp. This is a class where consultants can go around a room and learn about different products and how to demonstrate them at their parties.”

HOMETOWN PRIDE

Cincinnati hosted a “Paint the Town Pink” rally at Fountain Square the first day of the conference where Mayor John Cranley declared Aug. 6 to be Pure Romance Day in the Queen City. “The Pure Romance World Conference,” said Dan Lincoln, president and CEO of the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau, “has become one of the largest corporate meetings held in downtown Cincinnati by a company headquartered in our city.”
