New Horizons in Headaches

The 18th Congress of the International Headache Society will take place on Sept. 7–10 this year in Vancouver Convention Centre Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Next month, an estimated 1,200 neurologists, physicians, scientists, researchers, and health-care professionals with an interest in migraine and headache disorders will descend on the Vancouver Convention Centre for IHC 2017, the 18th Congress of the International Headache Society (IHS).

Challenges

IHS requires an adaptable space to fit its varied scientific programming, which according to Matt Davenport, project director for MCI UK, isn’t always easy to come by. “We worked with the Society to short-list a range of destinations in Europe, Asia, the U.S., and Canada,” Davenport said. “The flexibility around the venue and proposition from the city put it head and shoulders above the other options.” Vancouver Convention Centre offered the ability to hold poster walks — a key part of IHS’s programming — in “small, bespoke auditorium areas housed within the exhibition hall.” That means attendees can drop into sessions during breaks without straying too far from the main event.

INITIATIVES

This year’s theme—“NewHorizons in Headaches” — will serve as “a touch point running throughout the key sessions,” Davenport said. “We wanted to lend a real focus on the new developments within the treatment of migraine[s] and headache[s], and have some big names within the faculty that are at the forefront of these developments.” And for the first time, IHS will showcase ePosters in its poster walks, Davenport said, a response to “frustrations around the functionality of the walks snaking through physical poster boards.”
